Where can I find the tension specs for my 1974 O'Day 27?I just bought a Loos guage and want to use it. I also have friends with a Catalina 25 and a Ranger 28 that will pitch in on the expense if I tune theirs also.Thanks,Jim

Loos Gauge

Hi Jim -I haven't been able to find the recommended numbers for specific boats, but the Loos gauge does give you percentage of breaking strength. 12-16% is a range I've heard people use. It's important to make sure your mast is in column, so the Loos Gauge helps to equalize the tension on the port and starboard shrouds. Experiment with a setting, then go sailing an note how much slack is present in the leeward shrouds. Test both sides and make adjustments so that things are equal on both sides of the boat.
