I'm very new to sailing and looking for a small day boat to use with my 10 year old son around our marina (we are currently power boaters and spend every weekend on our boat). I'm hoping to find a small day sailer that can be rigged and broken down pretty quickly. I already have lots of gear to set up and put away each weekend and want this to be easy enough for us to use spontaneously.

I've found a JY15 that looks perfect but don't know what time is required for setting this up. I hope to be able to store the boat on my dock but we are in a covered slip so the mast cannot remain up.

Can anyone give me a ballpark on this? Does rigging the standing rigging require tools or is this pretty much plug/play/tighten by hand kind of work?

The prospective boat has a broken "nose". The bow, just forward of the forestay brace, it cracked from a meeting with a dock. Seller claims it doesn't affect performance and the piece remains intact due to the rubber rub rail holding it in place. This will drive me crazy so it will have to be repaired if I am to own this boat. Would this scare you guys away to wait for the next one for sale?

That's a molded plastic hull, and probably deck. It may not be repairable with the commonly used repair material - epoxy.

Too bad you aren't closer to PA. I keep thinking of selling my Boston Whaler Harpoon 4.6, and it would be the perfect boat for you guys...
