Rigging specs for all O'Days circa 1979

This is something I have tried to share and poorly posted it in the 25 spec section.This answers alot of questions. I will post the second sheet on the first post I make.Please post this in your Specification section of your boat info. I would love to do it, I don't have time.These specs are good from 1976 to 1983 as far as I understand. Best to all and I hope this is good info for you. r.w.landau

R. W.,Unlike the the guy who posted as 'Bluff Kid' asking about trailering a 23 or 25, I would like to reply with a thank you on that running rigging specification sheet.I bought a 26 two years ago. I was looking for a decent project boat and that boat fit my search. While it was damaged in several places, it was fixable. Also, it was almost completely striped of moveable parts except for one set of sails and minimum halyards.However, trying to find information on the 26 is difficult. I could find some information on the 25, but the 26 is another matter. Finally I talked to Rudy, after I had got the boat where it was sailable. I had looked at several 25's in my search and even bid on one. What I could determine was that the 26 evolved from the 25. In fact very late 25's are extremely close to the 26. However, the mast and rigging are slightly different. However, the information that you posted is close enought to be of great help.Again, thank you for that post. Maybe you can get our host, 'Phil Herring' to post that info with the model information or make a separate reference to it.Does anybody have 'that' information for the O'Day 26???I have obtained a copy of the owner's manual for the 26 all of 4 pages. The copy that I have does not contain that sort of detailed information. Again, thank you.Ed K26

Again, thank you...You may want to just reference such information with the web sitation in the future so those of us who have not checked that page in a year will take notice.Great bit of information, now if someone has that for the 26???Ed K

Day Sailer standing rigging upgrade

The headstay and shrouds on all Day Sailers should really be upgraded to 1/8" instead of the stock 3/32". This is the advice of D&R Marine as well as the experts in the Day Sailer Class. Why O'Day originally rigged the Day Sailers with the smaller size rigging is a puzzle, perhaps $$, but 3/32" is just barely strong enough, 1/8" gives a bit more safety factor.

A few points

These specs are great, but a few tips...The specs for the 22 will only apply to 1979 or older boats (1980-83 had taller rig). The specs for the 23 will be for 1977-85 models.Just for fun I looked up what I had for measurements of the running rigging from my 1969 WIDGEON (actual line lengths measured from my boat's rigging) and found that the specs are very accurate! The specs for the DS are accurate, although the halyards are a bit long, but better too long than too short! My (1979 DS II)Main Halyard is 45' (and is a bit long at that!), my jib halyard is 31' (another 12" would have been nice). My Jib Sheets are 22' (11' x 2) however for older boats with jibsheet cleats on CB trunk 26' would be better.

I think they ran from 84' to 88'. I think.

rj, Thank you so much for posting the specs to the daysailer rigging on the Oday site. I am including the url for the Daysailer site as well. The small boat owners (DS I, II, and III hang out there), and I know they would appreciate this information. I wrote a book on repair and maintenance of the DS II a few years ago, and I field a lot of e-mail questions on the topic of rigging. It would be great if you could upload it to their site. From there someone could submit it to the knowledge base under specs and measures. http://daysailer.org/index.phpI tried to copy it myself and move it over, but could only print it out, not replicate it.You deserve the credit for that anyhow. Rigging specs for the 222

O'Day Daysailer standing rigging

I totally agree with that. 3/32" wire is just too small. I saw the rigging on an O'Day Daysailer that my friend was going to buy year ago, and that's the first thing that I mentioned to him when I saw how thin the stays were. They must have been trying to cut corners back then.
