Rigging Specifications - Questions H240

The other day I noticed that the bolt / nuts that keep the mast struts in place was loose. I tighted them down as much as possible but noticed that there was a spacer around the bolt that was sticking out more on one side of the mast and not the other, leaving a gap between the mast and the strut on one side. A more experienced sailor (but not with Hunter) told me that the struts need to be adjusted (height) in order for the spacer to be positioned correctly. We looked at the struts and it was not obvious how to adjust their height. I looked at the manual - no help there. I also started checking the tension on the wire rigging. Some of it is much looser than other sections. I was offered a tensioning tool, however, I was not sure how much tension was appropiate. Again, nothing in the manual. I am being told that my boat was not commisioned properly and that the rigging adjustment was poor. I am really not sure that is the case, however I would like to understand how to adjust it properly and where I can find a specification for my boat. I am now worried that the whole thing will come down while I am sailing and would like to get some advice asap. Thanks

I want to understand how to do it myself

I can go to the dealer. Since ownership of the dealer has changed and I've had the boat for over 1 year, I am sure I will be charged for their service. Paying is not the biggest concern, however, I also would like to be self sustaining regarding rigging. Most of the more experienced sailors in my marina seem to know a lot about how to tune their boat. I want to be able to check the rigging frequently, I was asking if anyone in this forum had the proper specifications or a manual that would help me understand how it is suppose to be done for this model

This might help (?)

Bob, Here is a link to the best 'tuning guide' in the archives - it's for an h-26, but it may be helpful. Good luck! Dave Crowley s/v Wind Dreamer

Bob - call the factory

If it's not covered in the manual and the H26 guide doesn't help, don't hesitate to call the factory. I've called about tuning and tension and they spent the time with me. One of my windows was broken and replaced locally but the adhesive keeps separating. Three times they've installed the window and it doesn't stick. I called Hunter and spent at least half an hour on the phone with a fellow who has installed thousands of windows in the factory. Can't beat that! Next spring I plan to redo the job myself. He told me what adhesive they use, how to rough up the parts that mate, etc, etc. ...RickM...

240 Rig Tuning

I just did mine this past spring. Take the mast off the boat, follow the steps. It is not very hard. I am very pleased with the results. The boat sails much better. The dealer did not set it up correctly. Try these webpages, they both are closely identicle. I used the one on HunterOwners web page. http://www.hunterowners.com/ref/br.html http://www.usspars.com/pdfs/rigging.pdf
