Don,I have a 3/4 oz hanked on drifter from previous daysailor{Chrysler 20] i would like to use on my 23.5 hunter with CDI furler. What I did was removed hanks, added double grommets along luff.I ran 3/16 coated stainless wire threaded thru grommets loop at tack and head, attached tack to eye pad behind furled jib,use jib halyard to raise sail using wire as forestay.Works great on those light wind day.?Wing it out with whisker.. Should I install halyard restrainer to protect jib halyard? Couldn,t see letting the sail just sit in bag.Maybe my terminology is wrong, but thats what they called it 20 yrs ago when I bought it from Sails USA at Annapolis boat show.I do not plan onfurling but raising behind jib.

Perhaps I dont fully understand your question (pics would be nice). A drifter is usually set free flying (like an asymmetric spinnaker) .... not attached to the forestay nor furler foil. A typical drifter is designed with a full shoulder (lot of draft high up in the sail) and that 'fullness aloft' will typically cause severe 'wrinkling' of the material near the head when you furl. Drifters are usually made of nylon sailcloth material and such nylon ripstop material, and that material will soon rapidly lose its strength, weaken and totally fail by UV attack if left exposed to the sun on a furler.

If you must use a furler, suggest you use the proper 'continuous support tape' - a small 'precisely made up' dacron tape that is carefully sewn with a small braided line inside of a very tightly fitting double 'sleeve'. Example: http://www.sailrite.com/Continuous-Support-Tape-6
You should remove any sail made from 'nylon' from a foil when not using it. UV very quickly destroys 'nylon' ... only takes a week or two of continuous sun exposure to destroy it.

Seems to me he's asking about installing a halyard restrainer (although, I'm not sure I even know what that is). I don't think he's planning on furling the drifter. BTW - my nylon drifter hanks on. Made by Lee Sails.
