Rigging Measurements...

I went out to my boat the other day and took some rig measurements because I am planning on purchasing new sails soon. I noticed that my P measurement is not the same as the specs. Has anyone else measured their 25.5s rig dimensions? What were they? I measured the P from the gooseneck (note: not the tack pin, I have the mast down on saw horses and that was the easiest to measure) to the masthead sheave. So the actual P measurement is going to be even less than the 26' that I measured. But the spec P is 26' 5". So my P is at least 5" too short. Did the boat specs change or is it just my boat? Here is what I found: Mast height from base to masthead sheave: 341" From base of mast to gooseneck: 29" From gooseneck to masthead sheave: 312" Thanks for all your help.

Have the loft measure.

When I bought a new mainsail the loft would not use my measurements, they wanted to get their own. They don't charge for getting it right.

Mail order used sail warehouses...

Thanks for the good suggestion Ed. In my post I said I was getting new sails but I meant 'new, used' sails. I wished I could afford getting them made brand new in which case the loft would take the measurements. But I can't so I am getting used sails and have to take the measurements myself.

All Inches Are Not Equal?

Anthony, I can't explain the difference but the "Official" P for all 25.5's is 26' 5". I measured mine at 26' 61/8" to the top of the boom using a steel tape hoisted with my halyard. It is 1/2" from the top of the boom to the bearing surface of the tack pin. There could be a variation in using the tape-hoist method due to shackle and eye-splice size. I have a written quote from JSI which reflected 26.42' (converts to 26' 5.04") from their stock dimensions. I have shopped used sails in the past and have had some success with jibs but have never found a decent main that would fit. Because the main is the one sail that is up all the time, I'd really recommend a new one. Hunters vary

Hunters have a reputation for substantial varition in measurements. Apparently, your gooseneck is mounted in a fixed location. If you could move it down you could get a main with a longer luff. Finding the "right" main in the used sail market is likely to be problematic. I bought a new 155 last summer from Rolly Tasker and think its a good sail. I often beat faster boats with much more expensive sail in our racing fleet. I'd recommend saving up for a new main. If you wait till the boats back in the water you can probably get a more accurate measurement. Don't forget to allow for differing amounts of luff tension. Good luck.
