Rigging for spinnaker

Generally speaking, your spinnaker pole should be the same length as the J measure of your boat. If you are racing it is important as your rating will be penalized if greater as it is a factor of the spinnaker girth. Maximum allowed used to be Girth = 1.8J I would suggest buying a track with an adjustable ring rather than a mast fistting for the spinnaker pole attachment. It will give you better control. If your masthead already as a spinnaker bail it is a simple matter to get hoisted up and rig a sheave with a halyard. If not, you will need to find one and install it you you can rig the sheave and halyard, which have to be above your forestay in order to be able to gybe the spinnaker properly. Good Luck

Spinnaker

The best way is to send someone up the mast and attach a block to the masthead, it already has a ring specially for this purpose, then run your Spn. halyard down to the handrails and leave it there; don't go inside of the masthead or you'll run the risk of wering out your halyard as soon as it exits the sheaves. Remember your spinakker will be pulling from the sides not from the front. I have a crusing spinnaker and am very happy about it Ed Tamara S/V Mastconfusion
