Try This
Leading halyards aft isn' that difficult but costs some $ for hardware. You might want to try my "poor man's autopilot" first. What you do is rig a line from your tiller, outside your cockpit, up around your mast to the tiller. On my C-27, I ran it outside the stern pulpit and stanchions. I doubt that you have these on your 22 so you'll have to improvise. Anyway, put a small loop on each end and loop over the tiller. Now you have a continuous line from the tiller to the mast and back. After a little practice you'll be able to steer quite well from the mast while putting up or lowering the sails. Snug the line up so there's enough friction to hold the tiller in place but not so much that it's hard to adjust.
