All-

A buddy of mine has an older-style C25 currently. He is looking at an 87 model, claimed to be i good shape, yet missing rigging.

What are the I,J,P, and E differences? Can the rig be moved from the old boat to the new boat?

Phil, only differences are the mast height: standard or tall. Still the same rig, as long as it's a C25. I don't think they made the C250 that "early." Forestay, backstay, uppers and forward and aft lowers.

So the rig above the deck will move from one old boat to one new boat? Shrouds all same length, (relatively?)...

Good news if so. Opens up options

I would not reuse rigging from an older C 25 that was more then 20 years old. Seems like this would be a good opportunity to replace the rigging with all new stays, shrouds and turnbuckles. I had an 85 C 25 and the rigging was rather lightweight. A simple broken cotter pin that was corroded on my forestay nearly cost me my whole rig being lost. I was able to head down wind quickly before I lost her. Reusing old rigs are not worth the cost. Cheap usually windes up being expensive in the end.

Good points but I was mainly wanting to make sure basic dimensions, mast, boom, etc were interchangeable. The rigging on the current pre-86 was replaced at some point as evidenced by newer open body turnbuckles. It might be prudent to use or might not. The goal in the swap would be to take advantage of the benefits that a newer post-86 boat brings...
