My wive and I were on the island of Curacao. The hotel had a man made cove with direct access in the Caribbean. The first morning I went up the Concierge to inquire about a tide chart. The way he looked at me told me he knew not of what I'd asked. After a few moments, he asked me what I was talking about.. " You know, when the water goes out before it comes back?" ..... "Oh dhat, da water doesn't go nowhere mista, it jus stay dhere all da time, ya know"... Sure enough, about a 6" tide. Coupled with the light surf is impossible to really measure....~~(\__~~
We typically have a 6' swing with king tides reaching 8' often enough.

to add blocks to the spreaders, I decide where I want the block and drill mounting hole to fit the block. I use aluminum pop rivets to attach.
:plus: I used these

and then shackled a block to the padeye. I put the pad eye about 1/3 the way in from the tip.

lots of big boats move in and out of there on a nice day, and enough wake to tear his stanchion bases out of the deck glass.
We were tied up in the Charleston Municipal Marina one day when a large motoryacht came plowing down the Cooper River, putting up a 4' wake. The wake found it's way into the marina and rocked our boat from gunnel to gunnel. The force between the fender and the dock was so great, it stripped the accent stripes off the topsides. My fenders were hanging off the lifelines, and, fortunately, the lifelines weren't damaged.
As a side note, my wife was in the galley at the time, and, thank goodness, she wasn't cooking anything. The dock master was very upset at the yacht's operator, and called the marina across the river to get the boat's name, but he wasn't located.
