Rigging and Anchor with Headsail Furling at the bo

Need some advice, but I am not sure if this is the right place for the question. We have a C-25 with Jib furler going right to the end of the bow. There is no room for anchor roller, even though I could mount one on the bow rail. No deck room in the center of the bow. Can an anchor be effectively rigged (i.e. roller or something to help with retrieval short of an expensive capstan) OFF CENTER to drop and retrieve the anchor?

Oh sure

Just see if there's an opening where the line will fit smoothly without wearing anything. Be careful when deploying the anchor to make sure the rode doesn't beat up the fiberglass. Once you're anchored, the line will be fine.

Bow Cleat

We tie our anchor to the bow cleat starboard or port side. If the winds are forecasted to blow while at anchorage overnigth, I will add a harness - tie the bowline from the opposite cleat to the anchor rode about 10-15 feet out from the bow with a tautline hitch (also called a tent hitch - it will hold on a straight stretch of line without slipping) and then tieing the bowline off at the other bow cleat so that it hangs the same as the anchor rode when the boat is pointed directly at the anchor.This gives a redundant atachment to the anchor rode, and the two lines share the wear as the boat yaws back and forth through the wind.Oh, yeah, the first thing we do when we take the anchor forward is to tie off the bitter end at the mast!DavidLady Lillie

Off center is OK

I added an anchor roller to my boat and positioned it at an angle because of the headstay and furler. Just put it close to the stem fiting and make sure that there are no places for the line to chafe or obstructions that would make the anchor hard to deploy (anchor shank for example). It workd great and makes retrieval much easier.

Thanks for your reply. Apparently a roller doesn't have to be centered. I would love to see a picture of your installation to give me a definitive idea.Steve
