Rigging again on the H260

Hat to bring this up again BUT...I received by Loos gauge this week and will be going this weekend andas I sit at anchor thought I would tweat the stays. I've seen 940, 470 used as a bench mark for tuning but I'm unsure. Mymanual does not give anything in the way of tuning the rigging just size ofthe steel. If you look at url ->http://www.ayesail.net/sailing/Hunter/ManualH260/Page47B.htmRD1 is 1/8" and I have no idea what to set this to????D1 is 5/32", the lower stay.V1 and D1 5/32" make up the upper stay.Hope I have the correct! From what I've read on this site, I should beclose to the 940, 470 numbers, if I don't get to scared.Advise Please!!Jim S/V Java

Hello JimI am about to adjust the rigging on our new 260. Have not sailed it yet but I feel the original set was not correct.I am wondering if the spreader shrounds are too tight. With the mast stepped without any tension on the top and lower shrounds the mast bends about 5-7 inches. I believe that after I have set the aft rake on the mast and then tension up the lower and upper shrouds the mast will bend even further. Perhaps I should ease off the spreader shrouds to staighten the mast and then proceed to rig according to the manual. It would seem that as the manual does not mention what bend should be in the mast prior ro adjusting the upper and lowere shrouds I should assume the mast should be straight? With reference to the manual there does not seem to be any mention of the exact tension to be applied. Sought of a sail and try approach.

Contact Greg at Hunter Marine by e-mail and

he can advise you of the shroud tension for your tear boat. I did and he responded the same day.I only took my shroulds to 2/3 of the full tension as I chickened out. The boat sails faster and points much better after doing this. I will go to the full value in a couple of weeks before I pull her out for the winter.RayS/V Speedy

Rigging cable tension

The minimum breaking strength of 1/8 1X19 cable is 2,100 pounds and for 5/32 1X19 it is 3,300 pounds. You should be OK with those values stated for your boat since they are well below the minimum breaking strengths. I set my rigging to 20% so for 5/32 it is 617 pounds and 1/8 is 353 pounds.
