Rigging a Meridian 25

Redoing rigging on a 1961 Rhodes designed Meridian 25. I have all bronze turnbuckles. My question is- I have one toggle, which was apparently on the headstay. Should I worry about not having toggles under the turnbuckles on the rest of the shrouds and the back stay or is having one on the headstay going to suffice? Secondly, if they are really a necessity, where can I find bronze toggles for 3/8 pins? I've tried dealing with Port Townsend Foundries and can't even get them to respond to me after several phone calls and emails. Any OTHER suggestions? Charlie Jones

Toggles sometimes optional

Hello, If the leads off the chainplates are absolutely fair, in both planes, then toggles are critical, at least for your boat. But it is important to have one at both ends of that jibstay, as it flexes in both planes, top and bottom. As for bronze toggles, almost all bar toggles are bronze, just chromed. You can get very nice unchromed ones from Hayn (or through us. I think toggles are a good idea, even when not absolutely required; fatigue is an insidious thing, and I know of rigs that have gone over just from years of accumulated swings of crew on a shroud as they went past. Fair leads, Brion Toss

Thank you, but

Thanks for the reply. I looked at Hayn and all I can find are stainless toggles, starting with 1/4 size wire. I have 3/16 wire. I also looked on your site, but I don't see anywhere that things like that are listed. I'd be happy to buy from you , but tell me how.

Hayn Toggles

Hi Brion and Charlie, Unfortunately, we do not offer any of our toggles in bronze. They are all type 316 stainless. These are proving to be a tough find in the market lately. Thanks for thinking of us, though!! Regards, Andy

Buy stuff from Hayn

Hello, Thanks Andy. And all the rest of you, that's a company that is very strong on customer service, with excellent products. I particularly like their 'Hi-Mod' wire terminals. And you might try Sailing Services in Miami, or Rig Rite, for those bronze toggles. Fair leads, Brion Toss
