I'm ready to rig a new asymmetrical and wonder about what to use to attach the tack to the "bail" of the anchor roller. Also, any idea of the forces on that bail? Are the welds there usually of sufficient strength? Thanks.

Rigging a Spinacker on a 430
George, When I use the cruising spinacker on our 430, I attach a block to the bail at the end of the bow sprit. I run a line through the block to a plastic sleeve which fits around the furled head sail. The tack of the spinacker is also attached to this sleeve (the sleeve was purchased from ATM who made my spinacker sock). The line is then run back to the cockpit which enables me to easily trim the luff of the spinacker. If you have the same bail as we have on our bow sprit, it is more than adequate to take the load of the spinacker. Peter Milne S/V Blue Heron
