We're trying to get the mast back up after a shipment but are unsure if the upper shrouds attach directly into the mast in the slot there or are affixed within it by a hook or some other device. Thank you -emk

Upper Shroud Attachments

The mast on the O'Day 35 is made by Isomat. The shrouds are retained by what is called a stemball fitting. On the wire shroud is a swaged fitting which has a spherical end. The top of the mast has a spherical seat that the shroud sits in, however part of the swaged fitting is a spherical seat , like a spherical washer that goes in the masthead fitting first. You insert the shroud threaded end first through the spherical washer, then through the masthead fitting until the washer and the stemball all sit in the masthead fitting. Your next problem will be how do you run the shroud through the spreader fitting, but I will wait until you ask that question. Let me know if you need more help, I replaced my shrouds last year myself so I learned how to do it. Good luck, dave

Just aft of the Upper Shroud Chain Plate

Eric Where I found mine on an O'35 was just aft of the starboard upper shroud chain plate. I had to move my hand right up near the hull to deck joint to feel it. The nuts are exposed on mine. Good Luck. Good Winds Dave s/v DAMWEGAS
