Can anyone help me figure out how to rig a 1990 Hunter 27 for an asymmetrical spinnaker. Pictures would be great. Just purchased the boat and ordered a spinnaker. The mast has a spinnaker halyard but that is it for spinnaker rigging. I am mainly trying to figure out how to attach a block at the bow for the tack of the spinnaker. The attached picture is of the bow of my boat. It would also be helpfull to know where and how to attach the block for the sheets. I have attached a picture of the rail where I assume a pad eye would go for a snatch block. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try this...

This is set up for a bowsprit, but you can run the lines the same way without it...

Here’s an easy-to-make bowsprit, seats in the anchor locker. This will throw the spin ahead of the main, less blanketing. Tack line and 2 sheets permanently deployed for quick setup. (Note that the link here has 2 pages of pix and directions.) Typo correction: Eyelet should be 3/8 inch.

There's probably a few way to set up your asym. The key is having access to install the bow fitting (s) and padeyes on the aft toe rail. You'll need these three attachment points on the boat. I guess that's what you're asking us. On the bow, do you have any attachment points near the roller furling base. If so, you might be able to use an ATN tacker and attach the tack line to the fitting. You'll need turning blocks on the aft that give you access to your existing winches. Good luck. This is a good "out of the box" thinking project.

Thanks Deadline, I was the guy that asked you to email me your stuff last week. I might try your system but I assume it would make me illegal for racing.

tsbabcock,

Here's a link to the topic where I discuss how I rigged my boat:

http://forums.hunter.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=113431

I have additional photos of the added fairleads and cleats, but they are generic and don't need much explanation.

I think you could get away with attaching the tack block to the forward part of your pulpit. Use a take apart stanchion slide as the anchor for your block.
Thanks Cephius, I read through your post a few weeks ago and was going to try something similar or try Deadlines pole. I wasn't sure if my pulpit would support the load if I attach a block directly to it. It seems very strong but old mother nature is always stronger and I am a bit nervous about attaching to the pullpit. It's my first boat and I wouldn't want to rip it apart the first summer. :)

Keep in mind that a spinnaker is a light wind sail. It should be down and packed long before the forces of nature threaten the pulpit. If your hardware is all in good shape, the light weight sail cloth will blow out before any hardware fails.

They cost too much for most of us to risk in high winds.

92 Hunter 27 Asymmetrical Spinnaker

I have flown a Doyle APC for the last 4 seasons. I simply use a block on a shackle on the bow and blocks at the stantions. The shackle goes through holes in the forestay base. I have some older pics here which show the arrangement. I'm now using small carbo blocks instead of the ones shown in the pic. I'm thinking of adding a small sprit to get the tack line well clear of the nav lights on the pulpit.

Re: 92 Hunter 27 Asymmetrical Spinnaker

I put a series of spinnaker pics from this year in the photo album. The spinnaker really makes a difference in light conditions. The pics were taken from a friendly competitor in a Wednesday Night race that we sailed past.
