I have just recently purchased an 84 Hunter 31. It's on the hard with sails and running rigging removed. I plan to do some maintenance and repairs that the surveyor found and launch her next month. I've sailed boats of this size, but never owned one and never had to put the sails and running rigging on and the previous owner is not available to show me how. Is there a publication available that can instruct me on how? Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the setup is done on the bench!

Ted: You will see that most of the rigging for the H'31 is done on the bench. Once the mast is setup, it is just a matter of aligning the mast. All of your pre-bend is setup on the bench. One thing you should learn early is to reef at the first reef point between 12-15 kts. These boats sail well with a reefed main and will be faster if they are sailing flat! It may be prudent to hire a rigger to give you a hand. He can also inspect the rigging. It is cheaper to do it on the bench.

Running Rigging

Seems you've got answers on standing rigging; are you looking for how to rig the boom , outhaul & reefing lines? The main sheet and traveler might be a little easier as its al exposed. Presumably the halyards are still in the mast even if it's not stepped. More specific question may get more specific answers. Also try the photos from the Hunter 31 owners on this site.
