Can anyone give some basic advice on rig tuning the pearson 26. I will be putting my mast up for the first time and would like some type of starting point.

Tuning p26

The principals for tuning the P26 for daysailing cruising overnighting ect: are the same for tuning any boat of this size. First get the mast plum with a level make sure the mast is not hooked to starboard or port if so get it straight by loosening either of the uppers and tightening the opposite one. Check it by sighting up the mast and taking your main halyard to the deck at the turnbuckle. Mark the spot than take it to the other side. If they match mast is straight fore and aft and port and starboard take up acouple of turns o0n the head stay do the same with the back stay. get em moderately tight so you have about 1/2 " play in the head stay The uppers should always be tighter than the lowers. this is just a rudimentary beginning tune an advanced tune should be part of another discussion. If you need any more help with this E mail me at bffatcat@yahoo.com Bob 1975 P26w #74 Whitecap

The 'Pearson Current' (excellent site for P26ers) had a write up on rig tuning from the designer of the P26 Bill Shaw. Check it out.
