I'm curious on what advice Julian at US Spars had about aluminum vs stainless steel rivets.

Z160 boom track bail assemblies

My question was very specifically about attaching the boom vang bail and the mainsheet bail into the bottom slide track of a Z160 boom as found on my 95H23.5 and my buddy's newly-aquired 95H26. (Sheesh - _now_ what am I gonna buy???) Whereas I didn't hesitate to use SS when I removed and replaced the mast foot and head, there is no thick casting involved under the boom. It occurred to us to at least ask if maybe SS would be too strong and pull through? Julian said they always use SS rivets under the boom. He agreed with my estimation the the 1/8" to 1/4" grip range would be the right length to use to attach the bail assemblies. He said there can be many uses for aluminum rivets on a boat, but they use SS for the bails in the track under the boom. ...RickM...
