Looking into purchasing a Rhodes 19 vs Mariner (CB model).
Mostly the O'Day years, not the Stewart - but I'm open to ideas.

And 1) Wondering why there were so much more interest in the Mariner (on another sight) vs the Rhodes (and as there were more Rhodes 19 built)?
2) The rigging is identical - yes?
3) Any other compair and contrast would be great, and model years (I know in spec. form they are identical - but there must be some changes year to year - yes?)

Thans so for any insights.

Rhodes 19

One of our yacht club members had a Rhodes 19 centerboard that they kept on a mooring. They liked the boat but it didn't have a self-bailing cockpit and they wanted something larger with a cabin and sold it for a Tanzer 22. From what I've been told, the O'Day Mariner and the O'Day Rhodes have the same hull. I'd much prefer the Mariner, myself.

Mariner vs. Rhodes

It kind of depends on what you are looking for. The Mariner is a crusing boat, the Rhodes is a racing boat, or daysailer. I grew up on a Rhodes, and it was a lot of fun to race and daysail, but overnighting on it was "an adventure." If you want to go fast, pick a Rhodes, if you want comfort, pick the Mariner.

Rhodes vs Mariner #2

Thanks you David, Joe, and J.P. for your helpfull replys!

They gave me a better picture of the models, and I went to look at a Rhodes 19 this weekend! So that was a help too sence I've not seen a Rhodes 19 for years and years, and have never looked at them criticaly - like potential purchaser.

It was a 71 model year - was it a good year? :)

On the specs it lists the Mariner's mast at 24'8", and the Rhodes at 28'4"
Wow - what a difference ! (thought it was a typo at first ...)

AND the sail areas at 175 for the Rhodes, and 185 for the Mariner (and both booms are the same 10'4" long).
So those two appear to conflict - or maybe not?
Is the jib that much bigger on the Mariner - is that what explains this?

Thanks, Randy
Did I read the active Rhodes fleets (where do they race?) Chatham, MA?, N Shore (Rockport MA)?. Any on lake Champlain in VT, and Winiposaki NH (sorry for my sp...)
