Starwind 19 Bald Eagle
I looked at a project boat recently and besides the hideous window replacements, it seems to be in decent shape. I did notice it seems to be missing a few things. Mainly the main sheet block and tackle. It has the traveler, but that seems about it. Anyone know what was on it? Decent replacement?

Thanks, not sure if I would want to spend the $ for the harken yet. I'm going to look around. I'm not too sure I want this much work for my first boat. I do like the layout, and the initial build quality seems pretty nice.
Anyone have any thoughts on a 6.8 for a first timer? I'm planning on mostly day sailing using mostly in inland lakes, but can't rule out a possible trip to lake Erie or even the Chesapeake if it works.
I was thinking it would heel less and be a bit more stable. If so, the family might be more open to it.

S2 9.2A Winthrop, MA
S2 was started by Leon Slickers. After he sold Slickcraft...one of the early fiberglass powerboat companies...he had a non compete clause so he started building sailboats. After that was up he started Tiara. Long story short, for a production boatS2 has some of the best fiberglass work you will ever see. A bigger boat is harder to launch but easier to handle as things move more slowly. I started on a Lancer 25 and single hand my 9.2a all the time. However if I was going to be trailering and raising the mast every time I would opt for something smaller just because mast fairing is hair raising solo.

Thanks for the info. The boat did feel well made and solid. Pretty roomy for a 22' too. I'm thinking of probably keeping thr mast up and just sitting it on the trailer by the marina to help with that. Who knows, maybe a slip if there's one available.

S2 exiter 6.8 Hibiscus Harbor Cayuga Lake
I bought a 6.8 last summer. I'm a first time sailer. This a great boat. Super built quality. Much better than a Catalina or Hunter. Very stable boat. Almost impossible to tip. Great fun.

How does it do in light winds? Being in Pa, I would be mainly sailing on smaller lakes around here. It's almost 1,000 lbs heavier than a Macgregor, and 4-500 lbs more than the catalina.

It likes light wind . Ideal is 8-12 with Genoa. She's is good upwind in really light air. I have a drifter sail which is ideal for a beam reach. Really would like a true spinnaker for down wind sailing. Anything over 15 we reef and go to a 70 jib. Fastest closed hauled about 7 . Fastest down wind or beam reach about 5. Not super fast but handles like a dream especially reefed . Just a slight weather helm. If you really overpower her she just leans, rudder pops out water and she turns herself into the wind. Lots of space. I do a lot of weekend camping on mine. Tow a fishing kayak along and fish when wind dies. We are experimenting with jib block placement to increase speed and are going to add a spinnaker for better down wind performance next year. Kids love the flat deck. Great swim platform. We don't have railing but use jack lines for safety . If your looking for speed the S2 6.9 is a much faster . The 6.8 is more of a mini cruiser. Does yours have the optional swing keel. Ours does not but the 2 ft draft gets you just about any where. Being a newbie I liked the idea that a would not have to constantly check the depth charts . Good luck with it.
