I have enjoyed day sailing my '86 H23 both in Florida and now in DC for a couple of seasons. I would like to take it out on some longer trips but I am a little worried about the electrical system. The first problem is the mast wire hook ups (both male and female connectors gone) are stripped. I think it might be easier to completely replace the wiring in the mast. Also, I am not sure where to start with the wiring going through the deck. I have Don Casey's Sailboat Electrics Simplified, but any specific advice would be great. Anyone out there tackled this one? Any thoughts on where to start, where to get mast wiring replacement? Any thought or help would be appreciated.

look at the connectors and amount of available wire outside the mast. If you have enough wire, you can go to Boatus or West Marine and get new connectors. Installation is easy if you use the solderless connectors. We did the radio antenna on a 23 this last year that way.

I found an exact match for the female deck receptacle on my h23 after it had been kicked out during a mast-stepping exercise. Then discovered the male plug coming out of the mast had a short in it and haven't gone looking for that one yet. I'd like to repair it, but can't figure how to get into that plug. Any ideas, I'd like to here 'em. Mac

Think about the future

I replaced both male and female connectors last spring on my H22 but the principles are the same. I went to a local loft and found a set similar in physical size with two extra pins. It made a simple task to add spreader light latter that summer. If I had it to do aver, I would have opted for four extras as no I have no spares for the next?
