Revive a 1985 AB Cold Machine

We must diagnose what's ailing our circa 1985 Cold Machine to decide whether to fix or replace. The compressor/evaporator is an AB Cold Machine and has not worked in our 2 years of ownership of our Freedom '36 Golden Snitch. When powered up, the compressor does not start or make any noises. There's 12.4 volts DC at the compressor. It appears that the original thermostat was replaced with a home-grown electronic version. With the thermostat suspect, I bridged the T/C connectors and the compressor immediately starts and runs. I ordered a replacement electronic t'stat from rparts and now I'm ready to try that out. My question right now is whether the Carel IR32V0E000 electronic thermostat can be connected directly to the compressor t'stat terminals on the Cold Machine, or whether it has to switch a 12VDC relay which in turn would trigger the 'fridge. Carel manual states 2000VA as max. switched power, but I can't believe an electronic T'stat can switch that much current. Thoughts on this question, as well as further diagnostic steps are welcome. "T" STAT REPLACEMENT

THE "T"STAT YOU HAVE WILL WORK, WIRE IT TO THE T&C CONTACTS ON YOUR MODULE, AND POWER IT FROM THE SAME BREAKER THAT THE A/B SYSTEM GETS ITS POWER SO THAT THEY BOTH COME ON AT THE SAME TIME

It's working, and...

Thanks! The replacement thermostat was the solution and the cold machine started chilling down immediately onc the thermostat was connected. Ambient temperature in the icebox was 64 degrees heading down to 36 degree set point. Does a 5 amp 12VDC current draw sound right during initial cool down on an 8 cu ft box with large horizontal evaporator and 40 lbs of beer to chill? Buzz
