Hi , my P30 sanitation waste system has a macerator , vented loop , and y valve. But problem is i think its route is too long for a short run . Hard to describe exact configuration , but how about the 2005 West Marine catalogs tutorial on page 527, " OUR FAV METHOD,HOLDING TANK WITH MULTIPLE DISCHARGE SYSTRMS.Looks simple and easy. please reply Thankyou , Capt. Multible discharge systems
I will add my system description to the list to see what Peggy has to say about its legality. My boat is a 25 foot trailor sailor that cruises the Great Lakes but is trailer sailed locally in Texas where I've no access to pump out facilities. It is plumbed with a manifold using a Tee off the tank discharge, feeding one leg to a macerator pump and the other thru a valve, each leg then Tee'd back together and led to the deck fitting. The purpose so as to be able to self discharge out the deck fitting using a short garden hose and fitting into the cleanout beside the driveway or RV dumb station by closing the valve and engergizing the pump. Standard pumpout is done with the valve open. The head discharge is directly to the holding tank with no Y valve. I think I know the answer... that it's not legal but the alternative of an exterior pumpout unit is a good bit of hassle as the boat is used as a camper while traveling and ocassionally discharged at an RV station. I don't however carry the discharge hose and fitting on the boat, would that constitute and inability to self discharge if I were inspected?

"One size fits all" drawings should never be considered a real schematic...'cuz all boats aren't the same...heads are in different places...so are tanks...powerboats don't heel, sailboats do--which means that modifications are needed to prevent tank contents from spilling out the vent and/or running back toward the toilet. So unless you have problems pumping out or dumping the tank at sea (which btw, is illegal except in open sea at least 3 miles from the nearest point on the whole US coastline), your system ain't broke and doesn't need fixing. Leave it alone. And check out the link below to learn how to maintain your system. Arlyn, there's nothing illegal about your setup...and you can carry the hose. The only legal requirement is that the system be "secured" from illegal overboard discharge.

WOW , QUICK RESPONSE, THE SCHEMATIC IN QUESTION WILL FIT BOAT AND AS FAR as the work involved , i was already SET to replace all the hoses anywaywll just have to put the macerATOER Ia different place between the discharge thru hull and the holding tank , you like the set up on page 527 in yhe 2005 westmarine catalog ?

You may end up causing more problems than you solve if you try to make the plumbing as simple as that diagram (yes, I do happen to have a current WM catalog). Send me an email (I'm in the owners directory) with two sketches attached--one showing how the plumbing is routed now, and one showing what you want to do. And btw...this topic would be a lot easier to follow--and eliminate duplicate posts--if you'll keep the whole thing "under one roof" by posting replies to the same thread instead of starting new threads.

Ok...here's what you must have...
A vented loop in the line between the tank discharge pump and the thru-hull that's at least 6-8" above waterline at any angle of heel. Unless the inlet fitting on the tank is on a surface--top or vertical wall--closest to the centerline of the boat, you'll also need a loop (though not necessarily vented) in the head discharge line to prevent tank contents from running back into the bowl while heeled. The tank vent fitting should also be closest to the centerline to prevent spilling out the vent when heeled. It has nothing to do with the tank, but there should also be a vented loop in the head intake (not between the thru-hull and pump, but between the pump and the bowl)...'cuz relying on the wet/dry valve--and people to always remember to leave it in the dry position--to keep water from overflowing the bowl is dangerous. That's what you NEED...more than that may be overkill...less is likely to cause problems. Btw...the owner directory tab for these sites is a button on the home page that's almost impossible to miss.
