As a fairly new owner/sailor of a 1977 Oday27, I installed one of the two batteries in backwards (pos/neg reversed) for about 5 mintues, until the problem was noticed. Battery was very hot, and from I've been told, it's probably permanently damaged. With the remaining battery, I was unable to start the motor (OMC Zephyr SailDrive, 2-stroke), not even a simple turn-over. Could there be damage to the starter coil (whatever that is) or anywhere else in the motor/system?If it means anything, I was able to successfully (and consistently) pull-cord start the engine.TIA
