Has any one had a problem with reverse on a 1981 27' hunter ? Seems to not have enough power, but when the handle is in a "just right" position it kicks in and has plenty of power.
Mine did the same thing. Needs adjustment of the shift lever on the trans. The procedure is in the Yanmar (I'm assuming you have an Yanmar)service manual.
I had a problem with forward. It just wouldn't go all the way into gear - mad a hell of a racket and was generally very unhapy with the situation. Adjust the cable where it attaches to the engine block at the rear near the transmission - there is a 1/2 to 3/4" play. While you are at it remove the compass and spary some silicone spray into both the throttle and shift cables.
