My friend and I have a friendly disagreement on which gear should be place while under sail, reverse, neutral or forward. I say neutral, he says reverse. I say neutral because in any gear other than neutral, there must be some stress on gears.
Thanks

in reverse, it is!

Generally, you will find through the archives in this forum, is that a Catalina with a Universal diesel and hurth transimission should be in reverse under sail. (http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=28354 ) unless you have a folding prop.

I had asked the same question a while back and the consensus was such that since then, I have been putting the transmission in reverse.

Stu posted a message and a link recently regarding this position but I can't locate. Sure Stu can help us on that one.

My pleasure, good post.

Once again: http://www.c34.org/faq-pages/faq-transmission-position-sailing.html

Doesn't anybody bother with instruction manuals these days? I find it almost criminal. You buy a boat that costs $10K to $80K but don't bother to find the manuals. If you have them you don't read them. It's really scary.

These days, you can find almost anything on the internet or on (boat size specific) Association websites. So if you get a boat without manuals, you CAN find them. Seems like most people either don't ask for the manuals when they buy a boat, or bother reading them.

My PO had EVERYTHING. That made me feel a lot better about my purchase because it reflected his attention to caring about his, soon to be my, boat.

Oh, well, takes all kinds...
