AC Installation Question

I've got a '94, 35.5 Legend and am going to install a reverse cycle this summer. Question is where? I've seen them installed under the nav station, in the V-berth under the bed, and in the aft cabin on the long shelf that runs along the starboard side. One other option I've considered in in the V-berth in the port side hanging locker. Anybody have any other suggestions or pros and cons of any of these placements. Right now I'm leaning toward the aft cabin.

Been considering the same issue for a couple years now myself. I believe there are still pictures in the "Boat Information" section of an install Jim Rushing did several years ago where he went under the starboard settee, just forward of the nav. station. He had the mfg. custom configure the unit for him. Personally, I think building a little "shelf" in the nav. station area and mounting it there makes the most sense...closest to thru-hull area, more even runs fore and aft for duct work as well as ducting for the main salon. Just my thoughts. If you tackle this project, please document for all us other 35.5 owners looking at A/C.

Thanks for the input Honeyman. Spent the weekend considering everything and think placing in the aft cabin on a custom made shelf is the easiest fit. Got a friend who has his there and another who has installed a couple of units and both agree that this is the easiest relative to fitting and hooking up an off the shelf unit. Gonna go with a Mermaid 16,500btu model. I'll try to take pictures and post if I can figure out how to do it.

Just an update, unit is in and mounted. Running water intake off the toilet seacock and seems the pump is struggling so we don't have enough waterflow to run the unit. Get's hot and cuts off. Have pulled the boat and gonna put in a dedicated seacock for the AC.
