What was Roger thinking anyway with gate hasp to secure the boat?

This is beefed up to be kick-in resistant with two inches of material added to the top edge, housing two deadbolt locks, that can be Marine grade for coastal waters with salt. Cost of the mod as seen is about the price of new shoes for the teenager.

The boat has a motion sensor security light, so if they climb on board, they will be working in the light. May also add one of those backyard animal infrared cameras if I do end up putting stuff in the boat. If I can find one that comes in white, camo on the boat is not something I want. The slip I hope to get (waiting list) has a locked security gate.

That first one, would be against several BATF laws that I can think of. No wonder it is currently unavable. I bet! lol

Look at the cabin door. What do you see? One thing you see is several nuts and bolts drilled through it. So to correct the latch fiasco, one needs to replace the lock with something that will cover the holes. The larger lock accommodates that end. The second lock holds in place the added material to house the lock, without putting lots of additional holes in the door.

You live in a heavily crime inundated city, and you ask me about my neighborhood? lol

I like security, and I also want to lock myself inside when I sleep. That is not paranoid. That is reality in the most prison filled country on the planet, in earths history. If anyone is comfortable with a gate latch on their boat, download a police scanner app in your smart phone, and embrace the real world. I believe in law and order. Adequate locks go a long way in maintaining order.

Would you do this to your car? Why do this to your sailboat?

This month's Good Old Boat has a great article on using window intrusion alarms on a boat...the magnetic sensors seem to be the ticket.

now you need to start engineering something for your front hatch over your v berth(if you have one) also stop reading those stephen king novels on those dark moonless nights at the marina, their freaking you out to much.

FWIW, you'd never be able to sleep in florida with the hatches closed.

and the boat will rock once anyone tried to step aboard. at the dock, or worse at anchor...

the little magnet alarms work... if you have something to defend yourself with...

-but that's a whole 'nother issue...


I do like the locks... mostly 'cause it would make someone break into someone else boat.

I wanted to somewhat keep the original look, while making the while unit much stronger. The second lock was added not because I needed two locks, but because I wanted something to hold the added material at both ends while looking somewhat factory.

Under sails, when my little cat sleeps inside, harness-free, I don't want her to suddenly pop-up on the bridge heeling 30 degrees. Still, I want to hear the music.

1/4 inch clear lexan

My anchor and dock hasp with cat flap so my litte cat comes and goes freely.

Clear 1/4 inch lexan.

My seaworthy hasp: 1/4 inch smoked lexan, oak reinforced, with rubber washers under the stainless washers to prevent cracking under stress. Should resist breaking waves from behind for a while...:neutral:

25 years ago, I took a cat on a sailboat ride. Cat and my Doberman Pincher. The dog took a dump on the boat, and the cat decided he wanted to see what it looked like on top of the mast. Up the sail he went all the way to the top, meowing like he had been run over by a car.

When my cat falls overboard (it happened 3 times this summer) she litterally jumps out of the water and lands on the low point just by the motor. I ferified her back paws are palmed. Besides, her back legs are nearly half the size of her body. That's why she can perform such a deed!

I like animals better than I like people in many cases. They never really ask anything of us except to allow them to love us. It would take a big one, but there are fish that would see a swiming cat as lunch.
