The results are in and our Hunter 340 took first place! Not because we are great sailors (although I had some good crew this year). To win with "our" boats generally requires three things. Split the fleet, make the handicaps fair, and show up ready work hard. Our race committe has our 340 with a PHRF of 168 and J-24s with spinakers at 171. I just don't see a cruiser with all the toys aboard beating a J-24 or Merit 25 rigged to race with serious crew. They will out point most cruisers and in most cases out run us except when there are steep waves and heavy air. We typically have lighter and shifty air. And downwind, spinakers..adios! So the race committee split the fleet. Racers in one fleet, cruisers in the second. Cruisers start early and that keeps both fleets closer together so we can squeeze in two races per day. We raced in heavy air and the doldrums, tried everything we could to match the race fleet-but at the end of the day it was nice to at least win YOUR division. BTW, in the last race our closest compition was ..you guess it..another Hunter! Lets go race.. again So if you haven't been racing, get square with the race committee. A little friendly and fair competition can be fun. Good job Race Chrm Bruce! See you out there Greg!

Excellent!

This is exactly what racing should be all about.....getting out there, mixing it up and having fun doing it. That serves to encourage more participation. Your club is on the right track, good for them. :)
