Restoring on board water tank

I've had my 79 H30 for a year now, but have not yet attempted to used the on board water system. I was thinking of putting a hose in the water tank fill spout, then turning on the galley faucet to flush the system out, then follow up with some disinfecting of the tank. Anyone have any experience with this process?Also, does the galley sink empty into the bilge? There does appear to be a drain line running to a through-hull valve, but I can't imagine how that would work.Thanks,Kevin Filer

Hi Kevin, do a search on the archives...lots of...

good advice from Peggie Hall. Check to be sure, but as I recall, one cup of bleach per ten gallons of tank capacity. Fill the tank, then run water from all faucets until you smell the strong smell of bleach. Shut off, but leave your water pump on to keep pressure on the system. Let set for at least four hours, but not more than eight.Then run all faucets until the tank is empty. Fill the tank with fresh water and empty again. Fill one more time, which should have removed the bleach smell from the water. This procedure should keep your fresh water system tasting sweet for the season.Terry

No mystery to how it works...although water will rise in the line to boat's waterline, it won't rise any higher..so any water going down the drain just keeps pushing any water already in the line out till the balance is restored.

Threw hull Fitting

No, it should run to the hull and out to sea. You should have a threw hull fitting near that sink.Skipper from Ohio...Don't drain it into your bilge hahahaha...No, that would not be good at all!
