Restitch or new sails?

I have a '96 H26 and know I have some stitching issues with both the main and jib. Does anyone know of place in north Texas that does good work?

I am also told that there are places that will sell used sails which may be in much better shape than the one I have for almost the same price or slightly more than having mine stitched. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on that?

Sails

My 1995 Hunter 26 sails were made by Doyle. They have lofts in various places around the US. I called them, then put them in a box and UPS'd the sails to their place close to me in Chicago. I said, "if they are shot, send me new ones. If they can be repaired, do so". They called and said they were not worn out and they cleaned them and repaired them for around $200 each a few years ago. I think. Could have been less. They could have just as easily said they were shot and I would have paid for new ones. I just got my jib back and they put new sunbrella fabric on it.

I trust them.

Don't know where to send you in N. Texas. If the sails are original and have been used regularly then they probably need to be replaced. One way to tell is if the main is bagged out....lost its shape. Another is to examine sail cloth structure; I don't know what to look for but I do know that when I took my 12 y.o. main to local loft they did a puncture test and said the cloth was shot. If you're looking for replacement sails, one place is Bacons in Annapolis. Good reputation. Can get good price on used replacement sails also. Need luff/foot/leach measurements or at least luff and foot for main. Check them out online at www.baconsails.com.
