North Channel

My goal is to get my nash26 fitted with chart plotter, new depth finder and reseal the cabin windows, then take a few weeks and sail to the North Channel in Lake Huron for some real relaxing sailing. I never did anymore than daysail before. All this will be done when the snow melts and May is here. have a great 2005. Dirk

Learn how to reef my main

I'm just a daysailer with a Javelin and sail on Lake Delta in upstate New York, near Rome/Utica. It gets pretty gusty on the lake and I've been blown over twice. The good part is that I now know how to get up and going quickly; the bad part is that I carry a Johnson 4 HP motor and a bath isn't that great for it. So it's time for me to learn how to reef the main. I've never done it, so any advice would be helpful.

Disaster-Free Sailing

Four years ago we hit a shoal in 55 mph winds and 12 foot seas in the Chesapeake Bay. Had to be rescued by the Virginia Marine Patrol and recovered the S-2 27 two days later. Two years ago we had a galley fire that gutted the interior of the boat. Spent all of this summer restoring the S-2. This winter will complete moving the main traveler to the cabin roof and plan to explore a larger portion of the Chesapeake. Finally, want to locate a Nauticat 33 as a possible liveaboard.

2005 Resolve

I intend to sail more often, especially now that I've had my sails cleaned and reconditioned. Further, my wife gave me a 135% genoa for my birthday to take advantage of the light summer air. Also, I've added a boom vang and a decent traveler system.

Have a Successful O'DAY Rendezvous!

I resolve to put on the BEST Great Lakes O'DAY Rendezvous! Plans are underway and the date and location are locked in: June 17th - 19th at Leamington Marina in Ontario, Canada! Come one - come all! Other than that - just having an accident and break-free season would be a blessing!

A pox on drugs, alcohol and cell phones!

I resolve to find a drug/alcohol-free, and sane sailing instructor who is capable of teaching single-handed sailing without cell phone interruptions.

Really get out and use my new asym spin. Sail the Bay more in the Fall. More weekend anchor outs and more swimming in the warm waters of the Delta in the Summer. Refinish the wood below. Win the Ditch Run. Have the best ever trip to Tomales Bay in Sept. Crew on the Baja-HaHa in '05. Hmmmm... after years of resolution lists with lots of work on the boat, it looks like I'm finally thinking about getting to use it more!

I resolve to put more effort into selling my 2000 Hunter 290 so that I can buy another Hunter that will allow me to single hand with less work. Plus I would like to sail more often since the season is relatively short in these northern climes.
