reset keel

Iam looking at a 1977 catalina with solid keel. Boat and equipment are all in good shape except the keel needs to be reset.you can see a slight seperation from bottom. Is this repair costly or is there a quick fix? Should i stay away from this boat.

Hi John - Do you think the keel needs to be "re-set" due to a prior collision? Is there just a small crack or a significant gap around the keel? Make sure you check the keel bolt tension in the bilge, but it could just be the infamous "Catalina Smile", in which case a little filling, fairing and painting will be all that's needed. In any case, it would probably be best to get an expert opinion from a surveyor before proceeding with the transaction. Best, Trevor
