Hello all,

1984 H27

After inspecting the seals of all of my outside port windows, I need to reseal all of them. Can any one enlighten me on the process of cleaning the old seal and what to use to reseal? Do I need to remove the old sealant completely or just clean it up and seal over it???

Also, wondering if anyone has any tricks for the head and v-birth pocket doors. There do not appear to be any nails or screws interfering, but they do not open and close very well.

Thanks in advance,
JB

hmmm...

Run searches on the site for resealling the ports (i'm assuming the 84 is all opening ports)
If memory serves you need to use marine silicone for sealing them. Getting the trim ring off without breaking them is a challange...

As far as the head and v berth doors, At least on mine the v berth rides in a wood slot at the base of the v berth and similar at the top. I'm thinking a little wax may work to make it glide nicely. The head tracks too well on mine, boat heels to port to quickly and the door lock releases and the door closes so fast it jumps the track. I really need to adjust those little track wheels.

Thanks Manny! I am def gonna try the wood wax for the pocket doors. As far as the window seals go, they are the original plastic and do say to use silicone which I thought was a major no-no, but this must be the rare occasion. If they are not leaking, I am thinking about just reseating the cracks on the outside??? I will research a little more.

manny I also have a 1981 h27, all ports do open, I resealed all 8 of mine. You very carefully remove the trim rings on the exterior, they are only caulked on, remove all old beding, clean with de-natured alcohol and rebed with silicone. As for the slidind door to the head, inspect the base of the compression post carefully for a depression at cabin floor, this is a common issue. my boat has about a 5/16 depression at cabin sole and it makes it difficult to open and close the head door. Good luck

Thanks for the info! Got head working great, but haven't tackled ports. To busy sailing ;)
