rerigging H33 mast

I'm in the process of reworking the mast and associated hardware from my 22 year old H33. There are 4 masthead solid aluminum sheaves with bronze bushings along with the attending exit points near deck level for the internal lines. The boat has been rigged with an external spinaker halyard and the normal mainsail and foresail halyards. My question is what's the best use for the other two sheaves and exit points? IF for spares, that seems to force additional external lines to clang against the mast.

I used to race my 33 and added extra jib halyards for quick sail changes.

2 Methods

1) For internal halyards, attach the external single ends of the halyard to points like the bow pulpit or stantion bases. 2) Bundle halyards that are led next to the mast and use a bungee between the bundle and a upper or lower shroud. This is done for both port and starboard.

Extra halyards

I am assuming that the four sheaves are two forward for headsails and two aft. These are for redundancy. Clip the extra jib halyard off on the toerail as has been suggested or use it for double headsails. The second mainsail halyard is always considered the topping lift- till the first one fails of course!I have never heard of an internal spinny haylard though. It might make sense, I guess-- just never saw one.Remember the accepted standard is to exit headsail halyards to port on the mast and mainsail halyards to starboard. Some guys key their lines with red and green flecks for sanity's sake as well.My dad always specified extra halyards out of prudence. Ðor perhaps experience? We were so sloppy on Antigone (Raider 33) that we lost one a few times up the mast-- haste makes waste, especially whilst changing sails in the frenzy of a buoys race. Spares

When I got new Stay-Set X Halyards for my 33 I moved the existing halyards (very well broken in) over to the spare sheaves. It's comforting knowing If I screw something up at least getting home won't become a nightmare. I just clip to the toe rail and there's no banging.
