I just bought a 1984 cat30 and love the boat but have traced the source of a water leak to the top of the rudder post tube. I am asking for info on how to fix, if it requires dropping the rudder then I will wait to haulout but if there is a bandaid fix I willgive it a try.

No band-aid, just the right way

You have either of two conditions: 1. The rudder packing gland is leaking - that's easy -- tighten it 2. The rudder post itself is leaking. It's made of fiberglass. Get some epoxy and seal it. See the link. Also spend some time at www.catalina30.com and www.c34.org and www.catalina36.org or www.c36ia.org Read and learn. :)
