I am sincerely one of those guys who can honestly say, "if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any" But last Wednesday I got a call from the child support enforcement unit and was told my case should have been closed last May but since it wasn't they would be sending me a check this week for 9,300 dollars. The call came two days after I found what would be a big upgrade to my present nautical circumstances. I ran the numbers every way I could but in the end I was 5k short. I haven't slept in two days because I'm obsessed (in a genuine clinical sense) that I'm going to get a call from the child support people with a message like, " the IRS seized your 9,300 dollars because they found a discrepancy in the home equity loan you took out in 1998" And when I say that stuff like that always happens to me, it really does. So I would appreciate any positive vibes you could send my way so that on Tuesday or Wednesday I get an envelope with a check in it in the mail and not a phone call with bad news. Peace everybody

The IRS has a statue of limitations of 7 years. So they aren't going to get you for whatever you did in 1998 today, well, unless you've had an on-going case. Only you know the answer to that one...

Thanks, if that happens the first thing I'm. going to do is make a call to the only owner of a 40 year old meticulously maintained genuine blue water boat and say I can now officially say "I'll take it" now. The only funny thing about the boat is, if you put a sextant and star chart on the chart table it would more than double the boats tech gear.

Sounds like you'll get the check. Put it in a separate account (maybe even at a different bank) and sit on it until the "excitement" wears off. This will allow for a more level head when looking at potential boats and is a bit of a safety net in case something happens
