I am considering purchasing a 95 Passage 42, and am interested in getting any positive or negative comments anyone might have. I am especially interested in hearing about any serious (or not so serious) problems or irritations anyone has experieced. I've read through the reviews and seen the common themes there, but I would like any other thoughts anyone has. Thanks

Great boat

I've owned three Hunter, including a 450, and the 42 was the boat I really 'bonded' with. Pluses: Galley, aft cabin/head, sun deck, easy to singlehand (w/autopilot). Problems: The design of the fiberglass anchor locker makes operating the windlass a pain. I always had to tail mine, even the chain. Plumbing in the for'd head has been a problem for some; works fine for years then becomes difficult to fix for no clear reason. I could never get mine to sail well light air, but others whom I respect have told me they believe the 42 to be the best-sailing Hunter model of its era. So, that may be my problem and not the boat's. Overall, I don't believe there's boat that can touch it for the money. It's an especially good liveaboard. good luck! ph.
