Hello all, I recently bought a 75 8.0a and am in the midst of a complete restore. The boat came minus the saildrive and i've been researching alternatives, mainly patching up the saildrive hole and mounting a 9.9 or 15hp kicker. A new sailldrive is just to pricey for me right now. I would like to hear anyones experience with having the prop come out of the water in the chop. I've been warned about this and am a little worried how bad it might be. For example, if i got caught in a storm out in the gulf, how might the motor perform? I would of course find a long shaft and make sure its as low on the transom as possible.
Thanks for any comments,
~John

PS I'll post more about my exploits (along with pics) with the restore later. I'm currently relaminating the cabin decking from underneath and also rebuilding the mast base support above the header.
