We recently purchased a Catalina 28 1992 Fiona, problems with a pre-purchase replacement water pump have resulted with a cracked block. Wondering if anyone has repowered their 28 and with what? I have been trying to get some info for a Beta 18HP, but so far no response from the marine store I tried. Looking for something in the 18 hp range or suggestions from the group. Thanks, Gary

Gary, the Beta is a superb choice. All over the internet sailing forums, there has been nothing but good things to say. Call the head Beta office if you can't get spare change from the local dealer, I hear their head office is great.
This is pretty exciting. You know there are other options, such as electric propulsion. I own Electric Yachts of Oregon and less than a year ago I repowered my Catalina 27 with the 5KW electric auxillary motor called Quitorque 5.0 with 4 150 amp hour AGM batteries and love this system!
