Jim,
I love your Vega group, although I wish there was one for the Ballad.

I might be interested in the MD6B parts you have or do you still have them?
I have an Albin Ballad with a MD7A. Do you have any clue if the combi is
the same? where are you located? Although I guess shipping is an option. I
would be interested in looking at the unit if it is still available.

Hello all,

I have recently bought one sailing boat but started already dreaming about
big holidays crossing oceans. Started reading the book "Heavy weather
sailing" and one important propriety is the range of stability. Can you give
some data about the Albin Vega?s range of stability? It seems that older
boats where made more stable than more recent ones because of speed
concerns.

I think you are talking to me, the owner of the ballad? My name is Rich, I
keep her in Swansea MA at the top of Narragansett Bay.

I am in the process of repowering my sailboat, and am
pulling the MD7A engine and transmission out.

The transmission is in good shape, and has not caused
me any problems in 8 years.

The engine is available for parts. The head, the
injectors, and the pump (all recently rebuilt) have
been sold.

the entire engine was recently overhauled (less than
50 hours on it). Water somehow migrated into the
crankcase on the last trip of last season. she is a
freshwater only engine and boat. She is a 1978 model.

There is only about 2 hours of running or less on the
motor with the water in the oil. The oil used was
Mobil Synthetic oil, and seemed to hold together even
with the water present.

The diesel mechanic looked at the cylinder walls, and
said that there wasn't any scrubbing evident.

I will be tossing the parts in the trash soon....so if
you are interested, send me an email.

Again, the transmission never gave me or the previous
owner any problems. The engine is good for parts, and
might even make a good running lower half if somebody
has a head, injectors, and pump.

Best Regards,Jeff

Rich,
How's the snow?
I'm interested in the exhaust heat exchanger.
Let me know if you have sold it with the head.

I did the Chicago-Mac & Port Huron-Mac races for the first time last
year. Awesome area you've got there!
It was my first fresh water racing. I'm hooked...
Thanks,
Pete Carrico

Jim, If you want moral support or need any assistance putting your engine in,
I'd be more than glad to help. I'm only 45 mins. away. What kind of condition
is the Volvo engine in....I have a 15 h.p. outboard on mine and don't like
how it looks, so if the Volvo runs well I'll probably get it from you and put
it in mine. Dave

Hi All

Ref putting the Volvo MD6A into your Vega. If you originally had a petrol
Albin 021 or 022 installed (Pre Vega number 1375) then there is an awful
amount of work today and may entail installing a new stern tube. I know of
three conversions in the UK that have done this and can pass email
addresses to you if you need any help.

Kind Regards
