I am in the process of repowering my sailboat, and am
pulling the MD7A engine and transmission out.
The transmission is in good shape, and has not caused
me any problems in 8 years.
The engine is available for parts. The head, the
injectors, and the pump (all recently rebuilt) have
been sold.
the entire engine was recently overhauled (less than
50 hours on it). Water somehow migrated into the
crankcase on the last trip of last season. she is a
freshwater only engine and boat. She is a 1978 model.
There is only about 2 hours of running or less on the
motor with the water in the oil. The oil used was
Mobil Synthetic oil, and seemed to hold together even
with the water present.
The diesel mechanic looked at the cylinder walls, and
said that there wasn't any scrubbing evident.
I will be tossing the parts in the trash soon....so if
you are interested, send me an email.
Again, the transmission never gave me or the previous
owner any problems. The engine is good for parts, and
might even make a good running lower half if somebody
has a head, injectors, and pump.
Best Regards,Jeff
