Looking to pull my Universal 5411 and repower with a rebuilt Yanmar 2QM20.

Will the Yanmar fit in the engine space or will major modifications to my galley and engine space be needed.

The Yanmar is 27.5(l) x 17.8 (w) x 21.7 (h).

Not sure of the 5411 dimensions? Has anyone done this conversion.

Will the Yanmar fit where the Universal was?

Thanks

Curtis

There was a recent discussion, same idea

here: http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=110919

I don't know anything about Yanmar engines, so the Yanmar "2ABC4XYZ" model #s don't mean anything to me. Do some more looking under posts by Hermit Scott, since he's discussed this a lot recently. Just click on his name and view posts by...

You have the 5411 on your boat, and so should know the dimensions. If not, go to www.marinedieseldirect.com and get the spec sheets and diagrams.

The link above should give you ideas about getting the Yanmar dimensions, if not find the Yanmar website and poke around.

Don't forget the dimensions for the transmission.

Have you considered other Universal/Westerbeke for the conversion? Reason is transmission is usually Hurth and the wiring and exhaust connections would appear to be more similar requiring less "other" changes, plus we KNOW other Universals fit because that's what Catalina usually put in the boats. The newer 309s are coming with Yanmars, but obviously newer models.

Good luck, Stu
