Thanks for the advice...I apologize for the lack of clarity, I'm not really familiar with the parts terminology yet and learning as I go. It wasn't the forestay cable that broke, it was the "tang" which attaches the whole furler apparatus to the mast. There are only two rivets which hold them to the mast and they simply broke from the stress that I'd had on the rig. The cable is in great shape. There's no unusual bend to the mast according to my eye, but note that from the point above where the furler attaches to the mast there was already a "rake" (if you will) that appears to be designed into the mast. (?) The mast is a deck-stepped mast and there was quite a bit of movement during that time but after looking very closely at the area near and around where it sits atop the deck there appears to be no cracks or apparrent damage. I have located a rigger at a local shipyard who will come shortly to estimate for me the damages...I've contacted insurance and everything should be covered (in which only time will tell) and only the deductible should be required.
