The yard has just informed me that I should replace all (9) thru-hulls on my '94 Beneteau due to electralysis corrosion, that since they are not bonded and there is only one zinc in the whole boat, they might go fast. It appears they did. Anyone else have this problem?

Galvanic action

I have a 2002 Beneteau 361. I did a couple of things as soon as I took delivery. I bonded ALL the thru hulls and I added a zinc 'grouper'. The shaft zinc on my boat is a small hub type zinc and it was deteriorating once per month, adding the large grouper I now get 2 months out of my shaft zinc. I have a diver cleaning the bottom every month and they are great at checking and replacing the shaft zinc. If you're thru hulls aren't bonded I'm not surprised at the need to replace them.

thru-hull bonding

Why would Beneteau not bond the thru-hulls? This seems like a breach of good boat-building practice, if you ask me and I think another example of cheaping out.

Bonding

A friend has an Island Packet and all his thru hulls came bonded BUT another friend with a Catalina did not have the bonding system. If your boat is not connected to shore power it's unlikely an issue although you could have a DC leak. Most high end boats come with the bonding system in place and galvanic isolators installed. Most production boats don't seem to. It's certainly dollars and cents (or sense)
