Replacing the toilet...

In the process of replacing all of our sanitation hoses, we decided to replace the Jabsco manual toilet with a manual Raritan. I have been told that the quality of the Raritan exceeds that of the Jabsco. Question: If you have installed a Raritan toilet in your boat, were you able to get a satisfactory fit given the long pump handle and the hinged wooden shower seat mounted to the head wall?

Doug I have had jabsco, raritan, and groco heads. personally I tend to like the Jabsco best mostly because on the shorter handle throw. I think if the reason you want to just change because of a stained bowl. Let me offer you another possible solution that I recently did. I replaced my toilet bowl with a different bowl. West Marine sells a normal household sized bowl that fits most marine manifolds. I know it seems silly but more people have commented on how much more comfortable it is over the regular marine head. It is the same height and the wooden shower seat still closes. Paul

Another plus is you can use a plastic seat and lid from walmart or kmart for about $7 a new marine seat will cost you $30 or more.

Fits fine in the H'31.

Doug: The Raritan PHII fits fine in the H'31. They are also easier to pump because of the leverage on the handle. Jabsco's aren't worth the plastic that they are made from (in my opinion).

Am I the only one that got rid of the shower seat?

After rapping my knuckles on the seat one whole season, we removed it and will reinstall it if we ever sell Dulcinea II. We replaced all our hoses and the Jabsco right after we got her in 2000. Happy with the new Jabsco but our head gets very little use.

If space is tight, the PHC is the same pump as PH II

But on a compact base to fit in a tighter space. It also costs a little less. However, only the smaller "standard" bowl will fit the PHC> The pump on either version can be mounted on either side of the bowl...or, the handle can be left in the up position if it interferes with the head door when down.

Doug...

are you taking a dump through the "shower seat"??? You need to figure out what is important to you. Like Peggie says, you can move things around on the PHII, or even take the handle out, but it is a far superior marine head than anything in the $500 or less price range that you will ever find. Flush that!
