Replacing the mast sheaves

The sheaves in my Proctor "gold" mast are needs replacing. The two smaller (rear) sheaves are held in place by a clevis pin, and are easy to replace. The two slightly larger in the front run on a "hidden" shaft. The only thing visible are an oval plate, held in place by two small screws. When I remove the screws, the plate (and shaft?) will easily turn from side to side (it's angled on the shaft, so it's doesn't turn all the way round). I can pull it out, about 2-3 mm, but then it's doesn't go further, just like it was secured with a cotter pin inside the mast (not likely).
How to do? Just use more force?
Cheers

I had mine apart a few years back and I don't remember anything else
holding the pin in place. Colin...

I also have Proctor mast and I am replacing the sheaves as well as having some changes made to the mast head. I puzzled about that pin for quite awhile. It is held in by the two screws. Be careful not to twist that flange off when you are extracting the pin. Use lots of WD40 on the pin and between the sheaves. Pull slowly and as straight as possible. Before you pull use some wire to hold the sheaves in place so you do not lose them.
