Replacing the Fuel Lines

I own a 1986 Hunter 25.5 with the Yanmar 1gm10. The previous owner neglected maintenance on the boat, and I am playing catch up for his ignorance. I am adding a Racor fuel/water separator which will require me to run a new fuel line because of mounting restrictions. I was wondering if anyone out there has attempted to replace their fuel lines, and if so is it easy to do or best left to the marina? Also are they run through the stringers or snaked around them? Thanks Bob

Just do it!

I have a 1980 Hunter 30 and I replaced all of my fuel lines as a matter of preventive maintenace, You should use the best quality diesel fuel hoses you can find, provide support and chafe protection wherever possible. The one cylinder engine will vibrate a lot. Don't drill any extra holes in strucural support for the boat if you can avoid it. I added a fuel primer bulb between the tank and the primary filter. It makes it easier to refill the filter after element replacement and when bleeding the engine. However, mine came apart inside last season and we had a devil of a time fiquring out why the engine would quit after twenty miunutes. While you are at it, you should change the water hoses, belts and exhaust hoses as well.
