Have any of you replaced the fuel feed pump on this boat? We have the Yanmar 3 GMD. The pump is leaking diesel about one drop/5 seconds. It is making a big mess. I really need to get this repaired/replaced before we leave Port St. Joe. My problem is getting at the pump. I was wondering if removing the large panel in the cockpit floor would do the trick? It looks unlikely to me.

If you have done the replacement, I'd sure appreciate any helpful hints.

Thanks,
Ralph

I've got the Yanmar service for the GM series of engines. (Although the engine on my 1980 Cherubini H36 has a 2QM20, my previous owner apparently didn't figure that out right!)

On list of GM series engines, I don't see the "D" designation. Just 3GM30 F & C.

I see from the 3GM Service Manual schematic, that the feed pump is under the exhaust manifold. So yes, I can see that removing the cockpit floor hatch might not help much.

On the 2QM20, the feed pump is easily accessible by removing the panel under the companionway stairs. But I see from the diagram in the GM manual yours is probably located much further aft on the starboard side?

Is your 80-82 36 one of those with the starboard side berth next to the engine? If so, I have read that for many models of sailboats, owners sometimes cut their own access panels to do engine work. Might be your solution?

On my boat, I don't have the berth and this area is open with a removable panel that exposes the entire starboard side of the engine. Between that, the cockpit floor hatch, and the access from behind the companionway, I can do almost any repair on the engine.

Sorry, the above isn't much help. But also if you need any info from the manual about the feed pump removal and troubleshooting, let me know. I can photo the pages for you. Just three of them in the manual.

Thanks for the post, Rardi. Sometimes in the manual, the "D" is dropped, but just shows 3 GM. That is the engine we have. You are correct about the location of the pump, and yes, I do have the quarter berth behind the nav station. There is a smallish access panel on the engine side, but still doesn't allow good access to the pump. Rats! This will be a tough problem to solve. I do have the Yanmar parts manual, and service manual.

More later, when I make any progress. Thanks again for your help.
